Vintage Wedding Hair - Hindsight Is A Beautiful Thing

Walking down the aisle; your first dance; leaving the reception to an emotional anthem and a shower of confetti: you may not realise it but your guests view you from behind a great deal of the time during your wedding day! You may only really realise this after the event when you’re watching the video, and by then it’s too late. So, today I want to talk about how your wedding hair accessories can add much-needed back detail so you are spectacular from every angle.

A Vintage Wedding Hair Comb To Accent A Veil

Rebecca wanted to capture a little of Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary Crawley in her wedding look so she commissioned me to produce this real statement vintage wedding comb. It combines a victorian piece that started life as a brooch, with an ornate Victorian-style base comb that I hand-embellished with vintage pearls and rhinestones mirroring the gems in the central piece. There are some similar ones available here.

This was the ideal piece to add some sparkle above her veil as you can see in these shots:

The real beauty of a piece like this, is that you get to keep the drama at the back even after you’ve removed your veil to enjoy your reception:

A Different Approach For Traditional Vintage Wedding Hair Accessories

You might be wearing make-up and I hope you’ll certainly be wearing an excited smile on your wedding day meaning there’s plenty to look at from the front already. So, even if your hair accessories are traditionally worn at the front why not try styling them to the back? Here are a couple of great examples:

A Vintage Hair Piece Purpose Made To Wear At The Back

Finally, you can always go all out and just opt for a dramatic vintage wedding hair piece purposely designed to glamourise the back of your hair. I love taking complementary vintage jewellery pieces and redesigning them into elaborate vintage hair vines (available here). This is where I get to be most creative and every one is completely unique. I’m alway happy to make one to order for those who are looking for something very specific. Just get in touch!

Weddings are such a happy combination: a celebration of how far your relationship has come and excitement over the future of where it will go. With all those eyes on you, I think it’s a great idea that you look fabulous from the front, as you move forwards, but also in hindsight!
